Fewer than one in ten UK adults takes regulated financial advice. This article looks at why, the myths behind it, and what a structured plan changes.
Skybound Wealth UK has appointed qualified financial planner and Team GB Olympian Delicious Orie as a Private Wealth Adviser within its Athletes & Creators division. He brings financial planning expertise alongside a personal understanding of the demands and transitions of elite sport.
Delicious understands the focus required to compete internationally and has navigated the move into a second profession. His financial planning qualifications give him the technical knowledge to help clients consider how today’s earnings can support their future.
Delicious won super-heavyweight gold for England at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. He followed it with gold at the 2023 European Games, where he also carried Team GB’s flag at the closing ceremony, before representing Great Britain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Alongside his sporting development, he earned a first-class honours degree in Economics and Management from Aston University. Following his retirement from boxing in 2025, he began his financial planning career at Attivo and completed the Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
He has also passed the Chartered Insurance Institute’s AF4 Investment Planning examination, adding advanced knowledge of investment risk and portfolio planning. He brings that knowledge to Skybound Wealth UK alongside an understanding of the uncertainty and career changes athletes can face.
For someone whose earnings depend on contracts, competitions or commercial partnerships, a financial plan needs to account for when money arrives. A strong year may need to fund a quieter period and family commitments while contributing to longer-term goals.
In his role as a Private Wealth Adviser, Delicious will help clients bring those decisions together. That starts with understanding their circumstances and objectives, then connecting cash flow, protection and investment decisions to the future they want to prepare for.
Money needed between contracts may require a different investment approach from capital intended for retirement. Assessing those needs alongside a client’s capacity for loss and attitude to risk is part of the financial planning discipline behind the advice.

“Competing at the highest level taught me how quickly priorities can change. Financial planning gives me a way to help people prepare for those changes. My role is to understand what a client wants from their future, then bring their income, investments and commitments into a plan they can act on. At Skybound Wealth UK, I can combine my professional knowledge with an understanding of the sporting careers many of our clients have lived.”
For an athlete, the next competition can dominate the diary. Training and recovery take priority, while decisions about savings, family commitments or a future career can feel less immediate. Delicious has lived that routine and understands why planning for the years ahead can be difficult to prioritise.
His own move from boxing into financial planning also gives him insight into the adjustment beyond sport. A change of career can affect income and daily routine at the same time, making it a natural point to revisit financial goals and commitments.
A creator may face similar questions when a brand partnership ends or platform income changes. In both settings, professional advice needs to reflect the timing of earnings, ongoing commitments and the possibility that a career develops differently from the original plan.
Delicious’s sporting background helps him understand the context in which clients make those choices. His financial planning knowledge provides the framework for assessing their options and explaining the implications. Bringing those strengths together is central to his role in Athletes & Creators.
Through Skybound Wealth UK, Delicious joins a business providing independent financial planning for UK clients and people moving or returning to the UK. Within Athletes & Creators, he joins advisers including Jamie Proctor and Christophe Berra, whose professional qualifications are also complemented by experience of elite sport.
The division brings those advisers together with wider specialist support for clients whose careers and finances may span countries. Its work connects cash flow, protection, investments and retirement planning around each client’s circumstances, with specialist coordination where needed.

“Delicious understands the pressures of elite sport and has put the work into becoming a qualified financial planner. He can relate to the decisions our clients face and bring the professional knowledge needed to help them assess their options. His arrival strengthens our UK team and our ability to support athletes and creators through their earning years and into the next stage of their lives.”
